Half of the funds—around €12.1 billion—will be invested in the development of suburban and freight lines, upgrading signaling, electrification, and communication systems.
By the end of 2024, approximately half of the planned investment volume will be utilized.
The main part of the investments in freight transportation is aimed at modernizing logistics hubs in major transport centers such as Vicálvaro in Madrid and La Llagosta in Barcelona, as well as improving rail access to strategic ports like Sagunto, Castellón, and La Coruña.
The allocated funds will also be used for the reconstruction of traditional railway corridors, enhancing their capacity and efficiency.
Adif AV will invest €12 billion in the development of high-speed railways.
By the end of 2024, €7 billion will be utilized, with the remaining amount to be spent by 2026. Spain’s high-speed rail network, extending 4,000 km, remains the largest in Europe.
Plans include the expansion of lines in autonomous regions such as Cantabria and Extremadura and the renovation of major stations, improving inter-regional connectivity.
One of the key projects will be the modernization of the Madrid-Seville line, enhancing safety and comfort for passengers.
