Southeastern’s Fleet Upgrade Begins with Class 376 Train

The first refurbished unit, 376027, is part of an extensive program to modernize the Class 376 Electrostar fleet. Southeastern has already completed the exterior update, adding a blue wrap and energy-efficient LED lighting. This is just the first phase of the planned upgrades.

The full refurbishment will enhance passenger experience by adding at-seat power outlets and USB charging ports. Refurbished seating will also be installed in each train, with the first fully upgraded unit expected by the end of 2025. Southeastern has invested in improving the passenger environment with these energy-efficient features.

The Role of Partners in Southeastern’s Fleet Overhaul

Alstom and Eversholt Rail are playing vital roles in the ongoing modernization of Southeastern’s fleet. Alstom is providing the necessary expertise and materials to install new seating and power outlets. This partnership aims to ensure that every train delivers a comfortable, modern experience for passengers.

“We’re proud to mark this key milestone,” said Mark Johnson, Engineering Director at Southeastern. “Customers will appreciate the new livery and the brighter, more energy-efficient interiors. The full upgrade, including power points and new seating, will make a real difference.”

In addition to the Class 376 updates, Southeastern is investing in other fleet improvements, including a £27 million refurbishment of the Class 395 ‘Javelin’ fleet. They are also transferring 13 newer Class 377 trains and upgrading the Class 375 fleet to improve service across South East London and Kent.

These upgrades are part of a wider strategy to improve customer experience on Southeastern’s services, which include the UK’s only domestic high-speed train services.
