Solar panels are being installed on the roof of the passenger depot in Bedford, United Kingdom
27.12.2023
Caldwell Walk Depot, in collaboration with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and the non-profit organization Energy Garden, is implementing this initiative to combat climate change, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The 932 photovoltaic panels on the depot’s roof will provide an annual energy output of 322 MWh, sufficient to power 120 households.
The winter season of train rides on children’s railways in Ukraine has started
GTR will use nearly half of the generated energy for the depot, while the rest will be sold to businesses supporting sustainable development.
The non-profit organization Energy Garden utilizes the revenue to cover expenses for solar farms and support local communities.
This collaboration extends to other depots, starting with a successful project in Streatham Hill, London, where 500 panels generated 215 MWh of energy in 2022.
