The agreement between Wabtec and Ukrzaliznytsia for the purchase of 40 diesel locomotives will provide about 800 jobs for Wabtec employees in Pennsylvania and indirectly support the railway supply chain, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
“This agreement is good for Ukraine and for the United States. It will create jobs in both countries and open doors for expanding private sector investment and supporting Ukraine,” said U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

Recall that the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) approved a 15-year loan of $156.6 million, which Ukrzaliznytsia will use to purchase 40 Wabtec diesel locomotives.
The agreement was approved by EXIM on April 4, and final terms will be determined by the end of 2024.
According to the Export Credit Agency, the agreement between Ukrzaliznytsia and Wabtec is the first project fully funded by a U.S. government agency in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
As reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia may engage private enterprises in locomotive repair.
