The municipal company “Stolichen Electrotransport” has initiated a procurement process for 18 modern trams designed for standard gauge tracks measuring 1435 mm.

The base contract value is approximately $53 million excluding VAT, and delivery is planned over a three-year period.

Sofia invests in modernizing its tram fleet

The new trams must be articulated and meet current standards for energy efficiency, accessibility, and capacity.

Passenger comfort is a priority, with features like climate control systems and reduced noise levels included in the requirements.

Previously, Sofia worked with the Polish manufacturer Pesa, which delivered 14 five-section low-floor trams.

These vehicles received positive feedback and proved effective in daily operations.

The current tender invites participation from various global suppliers, as the city aims for transparency and competitiveness in public procurement.
