Snowplow Aebi Schmidt Tested in Harsh Nordic Conditions

The new Schmidt Beilhack HB 1100S railway ballast tamping machine developed by the Swiss company Aebi Schmidt in cooperation with the Austrian company PJM has been undergoing tests. This began in the autumn of 2024 and features some of the most demanding routes the Norway railway network has to offer, such as the Flåm Line at 55‰.

They are determining the braking distances, sound levels, and leveling during snowstorms or below zero temperatures.

The tests above ensure the required regulations of TSI, EN, and NNTR-NOR are met. This allows the company the ability to operate in Europe.

Snowplow Beilhack HB 1100S: Performance and Deployment Plans

Its four-axle configuration has a mass of 80 tons and a power output of 1,470 kW. Moreover, the capacity to clear up to 10,000 tons per hour of snow surely qualifies the snow blower as one of the most efficient machines available in the market. Its rotary system and snow intake system are able to perform proficiently under heavy snow.

In Norway, the infrastructure manager Bane NOR has contracted two of these snowploughs from the company Aebi Schmidt. Delivery of the first snowplough has been completed and should happen soon. Its counterpart has been created at the production factory of Beilhack in the German town of Sankt Blasien. From 1927 until today, the factory has been involved in the production of railway as well as wheeled snow-blowing machines.

Aebi Schmidt is further emphasizing its role in the Northern European market as the region continues to invest in infrastructure resilience and winter rail services. Once delivered, the machines will assist Bane NOR in maintaining train flow even during severe winter weather.
