Rail High-Speed Grinding
23.09.2023
DB and Vossloh are expanding their cooperation in the field of high-speed rail grinding, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
German Railways (DB) continues to increase the volume of work on high-speed rail maintenance using Vossloh’s technology.
Alstom has merged its Polish divisions
For the year 2024, DB Netz, which is part of DB’s infrastructure operator, has signed an agreement with Vossloh for high-speed grinding of 13,000 kilometers of tracks, which is 1,000 kilometers more than in 2023 when the work volume reached 12,000 kilometers.
The machine developed by Vossloh is capable of grinding rails at speeds exceeding 80 kilometers per hour, allowing work to be carried out during nighttime without disrupting freight train operations.
While in motion, the machine collects and analyzes real-time track condition data, aiding decisions on the need for preventive rail grinding on specific sections.
High-speed grinding technologies will be primarily applied to the busiest sections of DB’s infrastructure, with plans to extend the coverage to 9,200 kilometers by 2030.
