On April 17, 2025, the first Škoda electric train for regional services arrived in Estonia, marking the beginning of a fleet renewal. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This new train, the Škoda EMU 21Ev2, will play a crucial role in Estonia’s suburban transportation network.

The train will provide better facilities, including more seating and bicycle spaces, making it ideal for short-distance journeys.
Fleet Renewal and Expansion in Estonia
Over the next few years, Škoda will deliver a total of 16 new electric trains to Estonia. This includes 11 long-distance trains and five regional ones. These trains are designed with passenger comfort in mind, featuring ample seating, dedicated bike spaces, and catering areas for long-distance journeys.
The first Škoda EMU 21Ev electric train, delivered in June 2024, underwent comprehensive testing to ensure reliability. The new trains must complete over 11,000 kilometers of testing to meet certification standards, ensuring that they perform well under various conditions before they are fully integrated into Estonia’s network.
Škoda’s new electric trains will operate on dual voltage systems, ensuring they are compatible with Estonia’s existing rail infrastructure.
The long-distance trains will service the Tallinn–Tartu route once the electrification of the Tapa–Tartu section is completed, while the regional trains will integrate into Tallinn’s suburban network once certification is finalized.
By introducing these advanced trains, Estonia takes another step toward improving its public transport, making it more efficient and eco-friendly for passengers.
