A contract worth over €1 billion has been signed with the Egyptian National Railways (ENR), marking the largest deal in the history of the manufacturer, according to the Railway Supply portal.

Skoda Group to thoroughly refurbish

The contract entails the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of the service life by 15-20 years for a fleet of 280 AA22T series locomotives produced by German company Henschel between 1976 and 1993.

PJSC «Ukrzaliznytsia» and State Enterprise «Moldovan Railway» signed a memorandum

The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed within 9 years, following which Skoda Group will undertake the locomotives’ technical maintenance for up to 15 years. The first two locomotives will be modernized at the Skoda Group facility in Šumperk, after which the work will continue in Egypt.

Under the contract, the locomotives’ drivetrains and pneumatic systems will undergo thorough refurbishment, and their braking systems, electrical wiring, and control panels in the driver’s cabs will be upgraded. The locomotive control system TCMS will also undergo modifications. Additionally, the locomotives will undergo significant structural changes.
