21.08.2025
On August 15, 2025, Škoda Group delivered the first seven ForCity Plus 47T trams to Cottbusverkehr, and they are already operating on city routes. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Škoda Group and the modernization of urban transport
The supply contract was signed in 2021, when Cottbusverkehr ordered seven low-floor trams to ensure comfortable access for passengers with reduced mobility.

In 2022, the operator used the option to purchase 15 more units. The project received funding from the Cottbus authorities and the Investment Bank of the federal state of Brandenburg (ILB), because modernizing public transport is a strategic priority for the region.
The new three-section trams are 29 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, with a capacity of 158 passengers. The interior offers 61 fixed seats and six foldable seats.
The design also includes areas for passengers in wheelchairs and parents with strollers, as well as advanced air-conditioning and an audio system for passengers with hearing impairments.
Škoda Group replaces outdated rolling stock
The ForCity Plus 47T trams will gradually replace the aging high-floor Tatra KT4D vehicles that have served the city for more than 30 years. This upgrade will significantly improve comfort and safety for passengers.
Moreover, the renewed fleet will provide additional capacity as the city plans to expand its tram network and increase service frequency.
Cottbus has a long history of tram operations, dating back to the early 20th century. The first horse-drawn tram entered service in 1903.
In 2009, the city even considered closing the network, but residents opposed the plan, recognizing the importance of trams for the public transport system.
Today, the city operates four narrow-gauge lines with a track width of 1,000 mm, spanning 25.5 km and including 53 stops.
Regular investments in modernization highlight Cottbus’s commitment to sustainable public transport and the integration of innovative solutions.
