Telent has achieved a significant milestone in creating a national SCADA platform for Network Rail, thanks to the successful implementation of the latest electric control system at Raynes Park in London.
Following successful trials at operational centers and at the Raynes Park Electrical Control Room (ECR), Telent’s latest version of the centralized traction power control and data collection system (TPCMS) will enable Network Rail to monitor and manage its traction power network.
TPCMS is a unified national SCADA system meeting the requirements of all control zones, providing enhanced reliability and expanded functionality for safe and efficient operations.

In 2013, Network Rail contracted Telent for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of TPCMS, replacing all existing and end-of-life SCADA systems and migrating them to a unified national platform for local management.
After nationwide installation, the new TPCMS will control both AC and DC traction electrification networks, including power sources derived from the electrification system, serving over 1200 remote stations and meeting all current and future SCADA needs throughout its service life.
Additionally, a comprehensive set of training courses will be developed and conducted covering all aspects of operating and maintaining the new system.
The project team developed a technical solution based on Network Rail’s initial requirements, refining the design with the latest technologies and crucially ensuring compatibility with all existing outdated field assets in the Network Rail infrastructure.
