Singapore Tests Mail Delivery by Subway: Innovative Project
02.08.2024
A unique project has been launched in Singapore to transport mail using subway trains, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The project is implemented by the local postal service SingPost in collaboration with the urban transport operator SMRT.
Toshiba and Nagano Electric Railway Successfully Complete Testing of Innovative Train System GoA2.5
Testing of the new method began on the East-West subway line. Mail will be dispatched from Tampines and Raffles Place stations to Paya Lebar station, located near SingPost’s sorting center.
Deliveries will be conducted daily during off-peak hours, from 11 AM to 2 PM.
The project involves trains manufactured by Kawasaki, Nippon Sharyo, Siemens Mobility, and Alstom.
It is planned that the new approach to mail delivery will significantly reduce operating costs. If the testing is successful, the method is planned to be expanded to other stations and subway lines.
Attempts to transport mail by rail have been made in urban transport before.
For example, in 2022-2023, a project to deliver parcels using the Flexity tram was tested in Schwerin, Germany.
As part of the experiment, about 450 parcels were transported daily. However, the project was discontinued due to insufficient demand.
Thus, the Singapore experiment could become an important step in the development of urban logistics solutions.
Modern technologies and unconventional approaches to mail delivery can significantly improve the efficiency of postal services.
