Singapore’s LTA Expands Smart Rail Surveillance Capabilities

The LTA in Singapore is upgrading the digital spine with Nokia’s Optical LAN and IP/MPLS. The technology interconnects over 50 train stations, enabling high-definition video feeds for real-time system observation.

The new network facilitates the handling of more than 3.65 million passengers per day and enhances quick response functions for emergencies. And since it also plugs into the Operations Control Center, it enables smooth flow of information and sound decision-making.

Nokia Optical LAN integrates optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network units (ONUs) at 25 Gbps speeds. The solution requires 70 percent less cable and 40 percent less power than copper infrastructures, saving money and reducing carbon output.

Singapore’s LTA Collaboration Strengthens Regional Rail Innovation

Nokia Network Infrastructure Asia Pacific Vice President, Stuart Hendry, said that fiber connectivity supports global transport security now. He also said that this projecct allows LTA to have a very reliable and scalable system for future developments.

The partnership, according to Hitachi Rail’s Vice President Joaquim Santos, extends further deepening of long-term collaboration with the LTA and supports Hitachi’s aims to promote sustainable and intelligent mobility solutions for the whole of Asia.

At the same time, corresponding developments are defining regional transport advances. In Malaysia, YTL Communications is spearheading a national fiber-optic roll-out, and in Indonesia, safety systems are being introduced at high speeds. Together, these initiatives signal Southeast Asia’s shift toward cleaner, digitally enabled railways.
