10.05.2025
Shibuya Station is entering the final phase of a major redevelopment, with new towers, plazas, and pedestrian access set to fully open between 2030 and 2034. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Shibuya Station Will Gain New Pedestrian Networks and Plazas
By 2030, a multi-level pedestrian system will connect Shibuya Station in all directions, boosting mobility and access across Tokyo’s bustling city center.
The project includes redesigned concourses, modernized ticket gates, and a 20-meter-wide east-west corridor linking both sides of the station complex.

Public space improvements will continue through 2034, including five plazas totaling 20,000 m². These will also serve as emergency evacuation zones.
Shibuya Station Complex to Feature Expanded Retail and Cultural Space
In 2031, the Central and West buildings of Shibuya Scramble Square will open. They will join the East tower, which began operating in 2019.
Each floor of the complex will offer up to 6,000 m² of retail space, making it one of Tokyo’s largest commercial centers.
On the 10th floor of the Central tower, a new cultural pavilion will open in partnership with embassies, offering views of Shinjuku and the famous crossing.
Construction will continue without interrupting daily station operations. Developers are prioritizing safety and clear communication through tours and updates.
The Shibuya Station redevelopment marks a bold step in reshaping Tokyo’s urban core with integrated transit, retail, and public design.
