Shepparton Line Upgrade completes final stage on V/Line
11.01.2026
Shepparton Line Upgrade is now complete, marking the end of the final stage of work on Victoria’s Shepparton Line, as reported by Rail Express. The latest set of works is intended to improve capacity and reliability on the corridor.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
What the final works delivered?
This last phase was delivered through a 45-day construction blitz last December, with crews recording about 22,000 hours on site, as noted by Victoria’s Big Build. It provided additional stabling for VLocity trains, extended the passing loop, and introduced a new signalling and train control system.

More capacity for weekday V/Line services
With those elements in place, more weekday V/Line services can operate between Shepparton and Melbourne. The Victorian Government said the new signalling system also maximises the benefits of almost 40 kilometres of track upgraded as part of the project.
Earlier stages of the Shepparton Line Upgrade had already delivered improved stabling at Shepparton and added 10 train services each week.
Stations, level crossings and the Regional Rail Revival program
The wider package included station upgrades at Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie, along with improved train detection at 59 level crossings. New stabling also allows modern VLocity trains to run on the line for the first time.
The Shepparton Line Upgrade sits within the Victorian and Australian governments’ $4 billion Regional Rail Revival program, which covers upgrades for every regional passenger line in Victoria, as set out on the Regional Rail Revival program page.
