Katherine Rodriguez, 21, from Compton, was behind the wheel of a speeding 2014 Infiniti with no headlights when she struck a 2019 Honda Accord that was turning onto Long Beach Boulevard.
The Honda’s 29-year-old driver swerved to avoid a rear-end collision, hitting a guardrail. Rodriguez also swerved, lost control, and crashed into an oncoming Metro train.
She was transported to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her passenger, 22-year-old Nathan Hall from Lakewood, succumbed to his injuries six days later.

Police are now investigating whether high speed or driver impairment played a role in the Metro train crash Long Beach. Toxicology results have not yet been released to the public.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated fully with officers. No passengers or crew aboard the Metro train suffered injuries during the crash.
