Second Avenue Subway Program is moving into another construction phase in New York, with Skanska AB confirming its role in a $1 billion Phase II contract. The Sweden-based construction group is working through a joint venture with Traylor Bros., Inc. and Walsh Construction.

Second Avenue Subway Program advances under MTA contract
The agreement was signed with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Skanska said its share is valued at $498 million, and the company will include that amount in its U.S. order bookings for the second quarter of 2026. The contract puts Skanska within one of New York’s closely watched subway expansion projects.
The scope centers on station structural shells between 105th Street and 110th Street. They are planned for the future 106th Street Station. The package also covers tunnel tie-ins, excavation, earthwork, roadway decking, station entrance structures, utility support, and utility reconstruction work.
106th Street Station shapes Phase II scope
Phase II of the Second Avenue Subway project comes after the earlier stage that extended service from 63rd Street to 96th Street. Railway Supply has previously covered the wider Phase II context as New York moved to restart momentum around the extension. That first phase began operations in 2017, creating the basis for the next extension of the line.
Work under the new contract is scheduled to start in May 2026. Completion is expected in the third quarter of 2030.
