Scotland roads closed flooding disrupts travel in Scotland
14.12.2025
Scotland roads closed flooding is causing travel chaos in Scotland, with several routes shut and ScotRail trains axed or slowed by restrictions. A Met Office amber weather warning for rain runs until 11.59pm today and covers much of southern and southwest Scotland.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Amber warning and safety advice for drivers
Forecasters say fast-flowing or deep floodwater could pose a danger to life. Up to five inches of rain is expected, with winds reaching 50mph through the day. Motorists have been told to take extra care, and Police Scotland warned that stopping distances will at least double on soaked roads.
Road closures and flooding updates across Scotland
Traffic Scotland incident updates said on X that the A78 in Greenock has been closed in both directions due to flooding on the carriageway. The A76 at the Crossroads Junction in Kilmarnock was shut southbound just before 6am, before later reopening under temporary lights. Floodwater also closed the A82 southbound at Dumbarton Road, which has now reopened.
ScotRail cancellations between Kilmarnock and Dumfries
Rail travellers are also facing disruption, with some services cancelled and others operating under speed restrictions. ScotRail announced on X that services between Kilmarnock and Dumfries will not run today. With Scotland roads closed flooding still a concern, forecasters also say the “very heavy and persistent rain” is expected to continue into next week, as noted by Railway Supply.
