The upgraded high-speed trains will consume less energy, lowering environmental impact and improving energy efficiency. Modernization efforts also involve a complete overhaul of bogies and traction motors, increasing reliability for passengers. SBB performs all renovation work at its Yverdon-les-Bains facility, where company specialists control each step for quality assurance.

The high-speed ICN trains were initially manufactured from 1999 to 2005 and reach speeds up to 200 km/h. Each train can accommodate up to 470 passengers, making it ideal for both regional and intercity travel. The tilting-body technology allows these high-speed trains to navigate winding routes, especially beneficial on Switzerland’s mountainous terrain.

Adtranz originally manufactured the fleet before Bombardier Transportation acquired it in 2001. SBB continues improving its trains, ensuring they meet today’s safety and comfort standards, offering Swiss travelers a comfortable, eco-friendly experience.
