Saphos stock positioning move tickets are available for a rare chance to travel on what is normally an Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) transfer between Crewe and London Euston, as Rail Advent reports. The trip, titled The Positioning Move (1), is set to run in the early and late hours on Thursday 12 February 2026.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Saphos stock positioning move schedule and route
The train is expected to leave Crewe at approximately 03:30 and head for London Euston, running direct via the West Coast Mainline. It will be formed of MK1 stock and is due to be hauled by an AC Electric Locomotive, with arrival in London forecast for around 06:30.

Connections to Fearless Express and Cumbrian Mountaineer railtours
On arrival at Euston, the same coaching stock is scheduled to work two Saphos-operated trips later that day: the Fearless Express Railtour with Class 50 Diesel No. 50050 “Fearless”, followed by the Cumbrian Mountaineer Railtour with A2 No. 60532 “Blue Peter”. If you plan to travel on either railtour, you will need to purchase separate tickets for those services.
Fares, seating and onboard facilities
For the return move, the train is expected to depart London Euston at 23:55 and arrive back at Crewe at 03:00 the following morning. Standard Class and First Class seating is available, priced at £50 per person in Standard and £75 per person in First. There will be no open Buffet Car facilities on this service.
Tickets can be bought via the Saphos Trains booking page. Confirmed timings for the trip are expected to appear on Rail Advent’s Railtour Page nearer the departure date.
