Russian Railways significantly increased grain transportation
At the end of January 2021, over 2.7 million tons of grain cargo were loaded on the Russian Railways network. Growth is 1.7 times compared to the same period last year, informs Railway Supply magazine, citing information from the Russian Railways press service.
The largest volumes were shipped from Kursk (323 thousand tons), Lipetsk (201 thousand tons) and Tambov (187 thousand tons) regions.
Grain exports by rail amounted to about 1.8 million tons (an increase of 2.1 times). The largest volumes were sent to consumers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Mongolia, Israel, Switzerland and Nigeria.
Grain is loaded both into grain carriers and into covered wagons, containers and open wagons using special liners.
In order to further increase loading, the creation of mini-elevators on the network continues. In January, a new grain handling complex opened at Petrovsk station in the Saratov region. The project was implemented within the framework of a tripartite agreement between Russian Railways, the regional government and shippers. Annually, from the new loading, point it is planned to send up to 120 thousand tons of agricultural products in the direction of the Azov-Black Sea and Baltic ports.
