Royal Railway Cambodia Expands Infrastructure and Modernizes Its Fleet

Royal Railway Cambodia is actively modernizing its fleet and enhancing Cambodia’s transportation infrastructure to support economic growth. The company aims to improve logistics and expand railway connectivity. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

New Deliveries from Royal Railway Cambodia
On November 7, 2024, two YDM-4 locomotives arrived at Sihanoukville port from India. These locomotives will serve both freight and passenger transportation, improving efficiency across routes.

On December 1, 2024, 60 flat wagons from China were added to the fleet. They are designed to carry containers, construction materials, and heavy machinery. Another 35 wagons are expected by the end of December, followed by 45 in January 2025.
In July 2024, 25 platforms from a Malaysian supplier joined the network. Earlier in May, Royal Railway Cambodia upgraded its fleet with 200 wheelsets and 50 bogies for better operational performance.
Route Expansion and Diesel Train Operations
In November 2024, Royal Railway Cambodia introduced five KiHa 183 diesel trains purchased from Japan’s JR Hokkaido. These trains now connect Phnom Penh with major cities such as Sihanoukville, Kampot, and Kep.
The company focuses on enhancing transportation services and expanding its route network. These improvements enable more efficient logistics, increase cargo volumes, and stimulate economic growth.
