Rohri Railway Station upgrade set under Sindh-Pak Rail deal

Rohri Railway Station upgrade plans are moving ahead under a cost-sharing arrangement, with the Sindh government and Pakistan Railways each putting up 50% of the project cost, officials said on Monday, as reported by Profit (Pakistan Today). The project is expected to be completed by June next year, and tenders are scheduled to be issued this month.

Federal Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, acting on the Prime Minister’s directives, and the Sindh Chief Minister announced new railway development projects across the province, according to the Press Information Department (PID). For Rohri, officials said a master plan is in place to modernise the station, which serves over 20,000 passengers daily.

With the financing split evenly under the cost-sharing plan, the Rohri work sits within a wider rail modernization drive in Sindh.
Officials also linked the move to the successful modernization of Karachi Cantt Station, presenting Rohri as the next step in strengthening the province’s rail infrastructure, improving passenger services, and supporting economic growth in the context of broader rail-sector initiatives, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
Sukkur Railway Station restoration plans
Pakistan Railways also announced a development plan for Sukkur Railway Station to restore its historical and aesthetic character. In addition, refurbishment and upgrade of Sukkur Express rakes are expected to be completed soon.
Safety and passenger services in Sindh
The Sindh Chief Minister pledged full support for the Rohri project and other initiatives, while emphasising safety at unmanned railway crossings. Minister Abbasi said the two sides will coordinate with the Sindh Food Authority to ensure passengers are provided safe and quality food.
