Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum Celebrates 60th Anniversary
12.04.2025
The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad (LA&L), marking six decades of the railroad’s growth and influence. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The Museum’s Historic Connection to the LA&L Railroad
Founded in 1964, the LA&L was established to prevent the abandonment of the rail line between Avon and Livonia. In 1965, the railroad introduced steam-powered excursions that attracted many visitors, but these ended in 1978 as the company transitioned to freight services.

The expansion continued, including the Avon-Rochester line and the acquisition of several other railroads.
Railroad Museum’s Expanding Role in the Community
Today, the museum preserves the legacy of LA&L, which has evolved into a significant freight carrier across New York and Pennsylvania.
With a 400-mile system, LA&L connects local industries to the broader national freight network, providing essential services to businesses like Ingredients Plus and Barilla. This infrastructure generates jobs, boosts the economy, and supports local development.
For this milestone, the public can experience vintage LA&L trains at the museum on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the museum’s website for further details.
