The Riedbahn line, connecting Frankfurt and Mannheim, has reopened after significant modernization. The €1.3 billion project improves safety, reliability, and efficiency for over 360 daily train services. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Improvements to the Riedbahn Line
Germany’s critical Riedbahn line underwent extensive upgrades, including replacing 111 kilometers of track and modernizing 20 stations. These changes ensure smoother operations for long-distance and regional trains.

The refurbishment addressed persistent delays affecting Germany’s rail network, impacting 360 daily trains, including international ICE services. Travelers can now expect reliable connections across major cities like Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg.
Riedbahn Line Upgrades and Investments
The €1.3 billion project replaced 152 points, 619 signals, and 383 catenary masts. Additionally, 15 kilometers of noise barriers and eight platforms were modernized to enhance passenger convenience.
Deutsche Bahn’s CEO, Richard Lutz, described the Riedbahn line as the “aorta” of Germany’s rail network. During construction, detour routes handled 20,000 trains covering over 1.5 million kilometers.
