Rhenus Logistics and Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) are joining forces
28.06.2023
Rhenus Logistics and Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) are collaborating to further develop the capacity of the Middle Corridor and cargo handling, according to the Railway Supply magazine.
The German and Kazakh state companies are focused on developing transshipment capabilities at the Caspian Sea ports of Aktau and Kuryk, logistics centers in the wider Caspian region, and a container hub in Aktau. Additionally, they aim to attract more transit cargo through the corridor.
Rhenus has been operating in Central Asia for nearly 30 years, bringing the necessary market knowledge to participate in such transportation projects. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the visit of the German President to Kazakhstan.

Their partnership is part of a broader German-Kazakh approach to strengthening transport and logistics links between the two countries, as Kazakhstan becomes a key energy supplier partner for Germany.
A key aspect for this route is that rapid capacity expansion should not be expected as it is still relatively new. Indeed, the pressure on the Middle Corridor after the exclusion of the Russian route from several supply chains has made it insufficient.
However, the corridor seems to be recovering, and this year’s indicators may show significant growth compared to previous years. Therefore, partnership relationships like the one between Rhenus and KTZ will gradually help the company grow even further and assist Europe in accessing new and in-demand markets.
