Repair work has begun on a railway swing bridge in the United Kingdom

Network Rail, the railway infrastructure operator in the UK, is undertaking major repairs on the Skelton swing bridge, which carries the Doncaster – Hull line over the River Ouse in northern England, according to the railway portal Railway Supply.
This bridge has served passenger and freight trains, as well as river traffic, for over 154 years.
The repair program includes the replacement of the hydraulic control system for the swing mechanism, power supply systems, and lighting equipment.

The previous hydraulic control system for the swing bridge was installed in the 1860s. Additionally, the signaling system on this bridge was one of the oldest in the country.
The repair work carried out by Network Rail will extend the service life of this structure, which is an integral part of the railway and river infrastructure and holds historical value.
