Record Volumes of Marine Container Shipping from China to the U.S. and Europe: Spot Rates at Peak
14.08.2024
Marine container shipping from China sets records, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In June 2024, container volumes shipped by sea from China to Northern Europe reached a record 800,000 TEU.
According to data from the analytical platform Xeneta, this is the highest figure for a single calendar month on this route.
At the same time, the volume of cargo shipped from China to North America totaled 1.36 million TEU.
This is also the highest result for this month. However, it is worth noting that during 2020-2021, even greater growth in cargo volumes was observed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The record volumes in June coincided with a sharp increase in spot rates for container shipping.
According to Xeneta, from April 30 to July 1, 2024, rates for shipments to the U.S. West and East Coasts rose by 144% and 139%, respectively. For Northern Europe, the increase was 166%.
Nevertheless, signs of slowing demand for container shipping from China to North America and Northern Europe are already evident.
It is expected that demand may decrease in the coming months, leading to a drop in spot rates.
