The Czech railway operator, RegioJet, has confirmed its intention to invest in the electrification of the railway section between Chop and Mukachevo, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The owner of the operator, Radim Jančura, stated this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“If Ukrzaliznytsia supports us and facilitates the project’s implementation, we are ready to invest in electrifying the communication between Chop and Mukachevo. I cannot specify the exact amount of investment now; we await Ukrzaliznytsia’s approval. This will be our gift to Ukraine, similar to our humanitarian trains at the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia into Ukraine,” he said.
The owner also mentioned that RegioJet would like to extend the night train to Mukachevo.
“We believe that the war will end soon, and tourism will resume. Czechs love the mountains, and we would like to extend the night train to Mukachevo so that Czech and Slovak tourists wake up at their destination and head to the beautiful Carpathians,” Jančura said.
He added that Transcarpathia is one of the poorest tourist regions, and tourism will contribute to the development of mountainous and foothill areas in Ukraine.
In addition, Radim Jančura reported that RegioJet’s investments in acquiring railway trains for the Prague-Przemyśl route amounted to 15 million euros.
The funds were raised through credit financing.
Initially, this direction operated at a loss, but it recently turned profitable as trains have almost no vacant seats.
As reported earlier, RegioJet plans to launch the Chop-Prague route in November.
