ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) and Transfera, one of the leading logistics companies in the Balkans, have announced the creation of a joint venture in Serbia, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

RCG and Transfera: A New Joint Venture in Serbia

The signing ceremony took place at the Austrian Embassy in Belgrade and was marked by a speech from the Austrian Ambassador to Serbia, Christian Ebner.

According to him, this collaboration will further strengthen the presence of Austrian companies in Serbia, which is an important and promising market.

Significance of the Collaboration

With a total investment of approximately €3.6 billion, Austria is one of the largest foreign investors in Serbia.

The country’s economy is actively developing, and the demand for environmentally friendly transport solutions continues to grow.

In this context, the role of RCG is becoming increasingly significant as the company seeks to expand its European network and ensure closer connections between Serbia, Turkey, Greece, and key ports such as Hamburg and Rotterdam.

Main Areas of Activity

The new joint venture, based in Belgrade, will initially focus on developing intermodal logistics solutions.

In the future, there are plans to expand the focus to traditional transportation.

In recent years, significant steps have been taken in Serbia to restore railways and modernize infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for the integration of Serbian railways into the European transport network.

Key Projects and Prospects

One of the key projects was the dispatch of the first freight train from the new intermodal terminal in Kruševac in November last year.

This project, implemented in cooperation between RCG and Transfera, laid the foundation for rail transport from Kruševac to Western Europe.

Duško Radović, CEO of Transfera, noted: “This collaboration is a symbol of the long-standing friendship and trust that led to the creation of the joint venture in Serbia. Multimodal transport is the future of logistics, and we firmly believe that by combining our resources, knowledge, and experience, we can initiate positive changes and set new standards in the industry.”

Expansion of RCG’s Activities

In January 2023, RCG established its 13th transport company in Belgrade, LLC “Rail Cargo Carrier – Serbia.”

This enables RCG to offer international transport services in Serbia using its own locomotives and personnel.

This decision ensures important connections not only within Serbia and the Western Balkans but also with Turkey.

Despite the steady growth of rail transport between the EU and Turkey, Turkey’s foreign trade largely depends on road transport.

RCG’s flexibility in advancing through Serbia also provides the Turkish economy with an opportunity for more sustainable exports to the Western Balkans, Central, and Northern Europe.

Outcomes and Future Prospects

The collaboration between RCG and Transfera represents an important step towards innovative logistics solutions in the Western Balkans.

This partnership will not only strengthen economic ties between countries but also make a significant contribution to the development of environmentally friendly and efficient transport solutions in the region.
