Baku Metro Expands Fleet with New Trains from Europe or China

The Baku Metro is extending its international collaborations, and now Baku Metro is going to choose a supplier for new trains coming from the Czech Republic, Switzerland, or China.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

He emphasized that a contract will be signed after completion of the technical and financial evaluation. Collaborations with global suppliers will contribute to implementing innovative maintenance and passenger service practices in the Baku railway network.
Baku Metro Aims to Diversify Its Rolling Stock Supply
By 2030, 120 vehicles of new-generation rolling stock will arrive in Azerbaijan, bringing the overall amount to 300 vehicles. Today, 180 vehicles are in service. Of these, 165 belong to 81-765 .B/766 .B models and 15 vehicles belong to 81-760B / 761B / 763B models.
Until now, all metro trains for the Azerbaijani capital have been manufactured by Metrovagonmash, which is part of TMH Group. During the last two years, 50 trains have been delivered. Additionally, 15 trains will be delivered by the end of 2025. These trains are renowned for their smooth acceleration, ventilation, and energy-saving performance.
However, Baku Metro intends to diversify contracts. The selection between European and Chinese contractors will minimize risks during operations, enhance quality, and promote global collaboration. Strategic planning for digital diagnostics and predictive maintenance will be made achievable.
According to specialists, a new model for sustainable modernization of transport infrastructure might be created by combining European norms with Asian technologies in Baku.
