Railway Expansion Under RIPNAS 2030

Indonesia’s railway network will expand to 10,524 kilometers under the National Railway Master Plan (RIPNAS 2030). This ambitious plan includes 3,755 kilometers of urban railways and spans Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. The government plans significant infrastructure investments to modernize intercity and urban transport, targeting completion by 2030.

Passenger rail mode share is set to grow from 4% to 9%, requiring over 2,800 locomotives and 34,000 passenger cars. Freight rail usage will also rise, increasing from 1.1% to 13%, necessitating 2,400 locomotives and 28,000 wagons. The total funding for these projects is estimated at IDR 853 trillion (~$54.3 billion), with 32% coming from the national budget.
