The railway management suspended the driver of the passenger train bound for Lahore, his assistant, and two ground staff members for negligence as an investigation was initiated, stated a senior railway official, Shahid Aziz.

Aziz mentioned that the incident occurred near Sheikhupura, close to Qila Sattar Shah station early in the morning when the passenger train, en route from Faisalabad to Lahore, was directed onto a track where a freight train was already stationed.

He noted that most of the injured received assistance at the station, while those with serious injuries were transported to the hospital, and the tracks were quickly cleared.

Such accidents are a common occurrence in Pakistan, where railways suffer from decades-old signaling systems and tracks that have become obsolete.
