The works include designing an electrified double-track line passing through Marijampolė and ending at the Jesia station in Kaunas. This will strengthen Lithuania’s integration into the international transport corridor.
In Poland, most of the Rail Baltica infrastructure has already been modernized, but the segment toward Lithuania remains in the design phase. Coordinated implementation will help reduce the risk of delays.
Rail Baltica and the Significance of the Kaunas – Polish Border Section
Construction of this segment will boost transport connectivity between the Baltic States and Central Europe. It will increase both passenger and freight volumes while improving the region’s competitiveness.
According to LTG Group, a tender for construction works will be announced soon. This will create opportunities for contractors and attract further investment.
By the end of 2025, 43% of Rail Baltica will either be ready for construction or already under active works. This pace aligns with project goals and reinforces confidence in its completion.
Experts note that successful delivery of the Kaunas – Polish border section will accelerate the creation of the full North Sea – Baltic Sea corridor. This will give the region a logistics advantage and provide new routes for cargo and passengers.
