Quantico Station Improvements Project earns ACEC Virginia honor
24.12.2025
The Quantico Station Improvements Project has received a Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia (ACEC Virginia), as reported by RT&S.

The $27.5 million effort was completed in 2025 and delivered a set of upgrades at the station. The scope included a new center platform, an extension of the east platform, retaining walls, alignment shifts, upgrades at Potomac Avenue, and the addition of elevator towers and pedestrian bridges. STV has outlined the work in a project overview from STV.

The station improvements were tied to a larger third-track expansion between Arkendale and North Possum Point.
STV served as engineer-of-record on the Quantico Station Improvements Project and provided design and engineering services to modernize the facility. As part of that assignment, the firm designed a 714-foot-long retaining wall aimed at minimizing impacts to Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCBQ) and preserving historic structures.
Derek Overstreet, PE, DBIA, vice president and engineering director, said Quantico Station plays an important role in connecting communities in Virginia, adding that recognition from ACEC Virginia reflects the collaboration and care behind the work.
ACEC Virginia Engineering Excellence will hold a gala in Richmond, Virginia, in February 2026, where the project team is set to be recognized for its work; earlier background on the station upgrade scope has also been covered by Railway Supply.
