Freight locomotives of the SD70MAC model, manufactured by EMD from 1993 to 2004, underwent significant upgrades. The modernization included installing new engines meeting Tier 3 environmental standards to enhance performance and sustainability.

The contract aimed to increase the reliability and environmental friendliness of trains operating in the Chicago area. Metra, one of the region’s leading transport companies, focuses on upgrading its fleet.

These improvements aim to enhance passenger services and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The new engines will lower operational costs and contribute to a better ecological environment.

This year, Metra placed an additional order to modernize nine locomotives as part of an option. This option allows for the future upgrade of 27 locomotives, ensuring long-term benefits for the transportation system.
