Saudi Railways Company (SAR) will soon launch its Program to Localize Saudi Railway Industry. This initiative is central to enhancing local industry and achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

SAR’s Vision Behind the Program to Localize Saudi Railway Industry
SAR’s CEO, Dr. Bashar Al-Malik, has announced that the new program will debut at the Saudi International Railways Conference, scheduled for November 20-21 in Riyadh. The event, held under the patronage of Minister of Transport Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, will highlight the latest developments in the railway sector locally and globally.

By 2023, SAR achieved a 50% local spending rate and aims to increase this to 60% by 2025. The program focuses on establishing domestic factories, transferring global expertise, and encouraging private sector participation. Through these efforts, SAR aims to foster local job creation, increase the localization of industry services, and boost investment in sustainable technologies.
Sustainability and Economic Impact of Localizing the Railway Industry
The Program to Localize Saudi Railway Industry underscores SAR’s commitment to sustainability and economic development. Saudi Arabia has already introduced eco-friendly solutions, such as the Haramain High-Speed Train and hydrogen-powered trains, as part of the Saudi Green Initiative.
Railways also significantly reduce highway traffic, cutting carbon emissions and preserving road infrastructure. These efforts improve environmental sustainability and enhance traffic safety. Additionally, SAR’s cargo trains have become crucial in ensuring uninterrupted global trade flow, especially during geopolitical disruptions.
SAR’s initiatives, such as the Land Bridge and Gulf Linkage projects, contribute directly to Vision 2030. These projects position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub, linking three continents and fostering regional growth. By localizing the railway industry, SAR is empowering local businesses, creating jobs, and ensuring the Kingdom’s continued leadership in sustainable transportation.
