The Brasília Federal District Metro is preparing to update its rolling stock, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Procurement of trains for the Metro

The purchase of 15 new metro trains is planned, costing 900 million reais, along with the acquisition of a new signaling system for 400 million reais.

The Dutch tender for hydrogen trains concluded without any proposals

This step is driven by the need to expand the metro network: by 2028, 2 new stations are planned on the Orange and Green lines, with a total length of new tracks of 6 km.

Currently, the Brasília Metro’s rolling stock includes 20 Serie 1000 model trains, produced at the Alstom facility in the late 1990s, as well as 12 Alstom Metropolis trains manufactured in the 2010s.

However, a recent incident involving a passenger car catching fire has highlighted the need to update and modernize the rolling stock.

The new trains and signaling system will help improve the safety and efficiency of the metro, providing comfort and convenience for passengers.

This move also demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to modern standards of public transportation and infrastructure development in the city.
