Procurement of New Rolling Stock for the Metro
03.09.2023
Yerevan is preparing for the procurement of new rolling stock for its metro system, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
In the near future, tenders will be announced for the purchase of 45 new subway cars for Yerevan’s metro system.
This announcement came during a working meeting at the city administration, where Babken Sedrakyan, the CEO of “Metro Karen Demirchyan” CJSC, shared this information.
As discussed during the meeting, all technical specifications are ready, and a competition will be announced shortly.
The metro system also anticipates the support of the city administration and the government in acquiring the new rolling stock.
It’s worth noting that all currently operational subway cars are from the 1976 production year, making the replacement of these older cars a necessity.
The Yerevan Metro, named after Karen Demirchyan, was founded in 1981.
Currently, the metro fleet consists of 45 cars, and 15 train compositions, each with 2-3 cars, serve the 13.4 km-long metro lines daily.
