The 272-kilometre-long rail project includes the iconic Chenab Railway Bridge, which rises 359 meters above the riverbed. This link connects the Kashmir Valley to New Delhi and marks a milestone in Indian infrastructure.

Engineering Feat to Be Unveiled by Prime Minister Modi

Locals in Bakkal village and Reasi district prepare to witness the historic launch, which symbolizes national unity and technological excellence. The Chenab Bridge stands not just as a connector, but as a national achievement.

Engineers overcame harsh terrain and seismic challenges to complete the bridge. With 36 tunnels covering 119 kilometers and about 1,000 bridges in total, the USBRL showcases Indian engineering prowess.

One railway official praised the Chenab Bridge as taller than the Eiffel Tower and strong enough to resist 250 km/h winds. Over 30,000 metric tons of steel went into its construction.

The bridge’s largest base, S20, equals one-third of a football field in size. Its sheer scale demonstrates India’s resolve to complete what once seemed impossible.

Prime Minister Modi to Boost Connectivity and Growth

During the event, Prime Minister Modi will highlight the railway’s impact on trade, tourism, and local jobs. The USBRL is more than a transport link; it brings economic transformation.

The line uses electric engines powered by advanced Overhead Equipment. Engineers used solid metal stanchions instead of wires to adapt to extreme weather conditions.

To enable access, Indian Railways built 200 kilometers of roads. These roads now serve villages where residents once walked 25 kilometers to reach transport facilities.

Surveillance systems will monitor tunnels, bridges, and stations in real time. Control rooms will ensure safety across the seismically active region.

With this launch, India redefines its infrastructure goals and brings remote communities into the national mainstream.
