Potash from Manitoba will reach world markets by the Port of Churchill soon as PADCOM and AGG enhance rail logistics, storage strength in order to increase exportation as well as wider trading prospects.

Opening up Potash exports by new routes

PADCOM has already started manufacturing potash in its Harrowby mine just west of Russell with an ability to transport 250,000 tons annually. It wants quicker and more affordable transport by Churchill by cutting travel time by several weeks down to a mere six days.

Thus far, PADCOM customers are in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, as well as the United States. Access to Churchill, however, will unlock Africa, South America, as well as Europe, thus increasing a more significant global role for Manitoba’s resource sector.

Potash and Churchill’s increasing trade role

Arctic Gateway Group disciplines PADCOM with widened port infrastructure as well as a tripled storage facility constructed for strategic minerals. Shipments will commence next year, yet investment has doubled freight movement as well as reduced rail travel time.

Because climate change is extending the Hudson Bay shipping season, Churchill may soon operate for half the year. The partnership also creates jobs for Indigenous and northern communities, while making Manitoba more competitive in the global potash market.
