Delivery of CRRC Locomotives: A New Stage in the Development of Kazakhstan’s Railway Infrastructure

An important ceremony marking a new stage in the development of Kazakhstan’s railway transport took place at the Altynkol station in Kazakhstan, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

As part of the cooperation with the Chinese corporation CRRC, the first shunting locomotives were received ahead of schedule, indicating a high level of interaction and trust between the partners.

These locomotives feature improved design and traction parameters.

Their design takes into account the harsh climatic conditions of Kazakhstan: they can operate in a temperature range from -40°C to +50°C, making them indispensable for use in various regions of the country.

Each locomotive weighs 135 tons, ensuring high efficiency and reliability in operation.

The diesel generator units of the locomotives meet modern environmental standards, aligning with Kazakhstan’s commitment to sustainable development and reducing negative environmental impacts.

The framework agreement between CRRC and Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), concluded in October 2023, provides for the delivery of 100 shunting and 100 mainline locomotives, totaling approximately $1.3 billion.

The first four locomotives, intended for certification, were expected by the end of the year but arrived ahead of schedule, highlighting the promptness and responsibility of the Chinese manufacturer.

The ceremony at the Altynkol station was a significant event for Kazakhstan’s railway sector.
