The Spanish company CAF has signed two contracts to supply metro trains to Colombia and Chile. The total contract value exceeds €200 million, demonstrating the company’s global success in transport solutions. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Under these agreements, CAF will deliver 19 INNEO trains: 13 to Medellín and 6 to Santiago. This initiative will modernize transportation systems and accommodate increasing passenger numbers in both regions.

Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest city, boasts a population of over 2.5 million people. Its metro system, operational since 1995, transports more than one million passengers daily across its two lines.

CAF has previously supplied 38 trains to Medellín and refurbished 42 MAN-manufactured trains still in operation. This new contract includes delivering three-car trains and conducting network tests for optimal integration.

Additional trains will manage growing passenger flows while improving both safety and comfort for daily commuters. CAF’s collaboration with Metro de Medellín marks an essential step in the city’s transportation evolution.

CAF to Supply Metro Trains to Santiago: Automation and Expansion

In Santiago, Chile’s capital, metro infrastructure continues advancing with cutting-edge technology. CAF has already delivered 80 trains to Lines 1, 3, and 6 of the metro network.

Among these, 41 trains operate in fully automated mode, adhering to GoA4 automation standards. The new five-car trains will serve Line 6, where construction of additional stations is currently underway.

CAF will also maintain the new trains after delivery, ensuring consistent performance and reliability. This highlights the strong trust placed in CAF by the operators of Metro de Santiago.

Contracts in Chile and Colombia solidify CAF’s position in the Latin American market. Expanding metro services in these cities will improve accessibility and support regional economic growth.
