The national carrier Indian Railways (IR) has signed a contract with the state joint venture SAIL-RITES for the supply of 2,000 open wagons, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The deal is valued at 8.2 billion rupees ($98 million).

Earlier this year, IR ordered 12,000 freight wagons from Indian companies Besco, Titagarh Rail, Jupiter Wagons, and HEI.
