Records and Growth Plans

In 2024, the port processed about 5.6 million TEU of containers. This figure exceeds last year’s level by 618,000 TEU, and growth impresses.

Because the trend holds strong, the port outpaces East Coast competitors. It also surpasses Gulf Coast ports, showing record-breaking development speed.

Port Savannah Expands Infrastructure

Mason Mega Rail terminal hit a record—541,000 containers in 2024. Growth reached 5.7%, and Norfolk Southern and CSX railways serve it.

By 2026, authorities will launch Blue Ridge Connector dry port in Gainesville. Spanning 42 hectares, it will handle 200,000 containers yearly.

Rail transport will link Blue Ridge Connector to the main hub via Norfolk Southern. This cuts truck shuttle trips by 966 kilometers in the region.

Now experts renovate Ocean Terminal with a new dock for ships. Completion in 2028 will boost capacity to 1.5 million TEU.

Ocean Terminal’s second dock opens in 2026 for large vessels. This speeds up volume growth and enhances cargo handling efficiency.

On Hutchinson Island, a new terminal with three docks starts by 2030. The project adds 3.5 million TEU to annual throughput.

Investments in both terminals total about $4 billion USD. By 2035, the port aims to reach 12.5 million TEU.

But the authority keeps pushing and prepares infrastructure for doubling capacity. Container terminals, docks, and railways await major upgrades.

Thus, the port strengthens its lead in U.S. and regional logistics. Client demand rises fast, and the port meets market challenges well.
