The Port of Nevada Logistics near Reno slashes emissions and speeds up shipping. This rail-powered hub transforms West Coast deliveries.
The Port of Nevada opened in June 2024. The 30-acre facility stretches west and connects to the Port of Oakland in California (CoStar)

Industrial Realty Group launched construction of this game-changing port back in 2020. They completed the 30-acre project in June 2024, earning a 2025 CoStar Impact Award.

Located in Fernley, Nevada, the port links directly to the Port of Oakland. Officials plan to extend connections to Los Angeles and Long Beach ports soon.

Previously, trucks hauled shipments east along U.S. Interstate 80, clogging roads and polluting air. Now, rail transport slashes truck numbers and eases congestion for daily commuters.

Construction teams tackled unstable ground by digging 36 inches deep in some areas. They added structural fill, blending dirt, gravel, clay, and sand for a solid base.

Port of Nevada Logistics Cuts Emissions

Additionally, crews raised an 8-foot berm to shield the railroad from Highway 50 drivers. This thoughtful design keeps the landscape clean and unobstructed for travelers.

Ben Galles from CBRE praised the port’s global business appeal and regional benefits. He noted its direct access to major ports drives job growth in Northern Nevada.

Justin Lichter, IRG’s chief investment officer, led this ambitious logistics project. Michael Shabinaw, Bill Staab, and Keri Swift also played key roles in its success.

The rail hub transforms how goods move from coast to inland regions. Its rail system offers a sustainable, efficient alternative to traditional truck transport.

Companies worldwide now eye Northern Nevada as a prime logistics hub. This development promises economic growth, more jobs, and a greener shipping future.

Port of Nevada Logistics Drives Growth

Unlike older methods, rail reduces carbon footprints and keeps highways less crowded. Experts see this port as a model for modern, eco-friendly infrastructure projects.

Fernley’s remote location posed challenges, but clever engineering solved foundational issues. The structural fill and berm showcase smart solutions for tough terrain.

Awards like CoStar’s highlight the port’s impact on commercial development in 2025. Businesses and commuters alike benefit from this forward-thinking rail initiative.

Plans to connect more California ports signal even greater potential ahead. The rail service sets a new standard for shipping across the West.

This project proves rail can outpace trucks in speed, scale, and sustainability. Northern Nevada now stands out as a leader in logistics innovation.
