The port’s partners in this endeavor include PSA Halifax, Canadian National Railway, and the union, underscoring the project’s importance to all supply chain stakeholders.

The first phase of the project involves the creation of a data integration center, with an estimated cost of 2.5 million Canadian dollars.

Funding is partially provided by a federal grant, highlighting the government’s support for the initiative.

This center will integrate information on maritime, rail, and cargo transportation into a unified system, providing a high degree of data integration.

A key component of the project will be real-time monitoring dashboards, enabling the tracking of vessel turnover, container movements, and operational planning based on up-to-date information.

The project is expected to be completed by April 2026.

The second phase involves implementing innovative solutions at PSA Halifax terminals.

The federal contribution amounts to 3.7 million Canadian dollars. This phase will introduce modern truck appointment systems, rail portals with optical character recognition (OCR) technology, and remote monitoring systems for refrigerated containers.

These improvements will significantly increase the speed of container handling and the overall resilience of port operations. The second phase is scheduled for completion by December 2026.

The project aims to enhance key aspects of port operations, such as reducing vessel turnaround times and increasing process transparency.

By adopting advanced technologies, the Port of Halifax will strengthen its position in the global market, becoming one of the most modern and efficient transportation hubs in North America.
