The contract includes building a second track, refurbishing 18 bridges, renovating a 496-meter tunnel, and constructing a new 1,279-meter twin-track tunnel. The project must be completed within 60 months.

Romania Strengthens Transport Integration via TEN-T

The line runs through Romania’s southwest and forms part of the Eastern Mediterranean Corridor of the EU’s TEN-T network. This upgrade will enhance its international transport significance.

Once reconstruction is complete, traction power systems will be upgraded, and ETCS Level 2 will be installed. These upgrades will improve safety and optimize train operations.

Romania Focuses on International Freight Connectivity

The new tunnel and second track will boost capacity on this route. Investing in rail infrastructure opens new markets and strengthens Romania’s logistics position.

With PORR’s involvement, the project meets European standards and sets a foundation for broader network modernization. It will help Romania’s railway sector become more competitive in the long term.
