Polish passenger company PKP Intercity has added two more Griffin locomotives to its fleet
05.08.2024
Manufacturer Newag delivered the Griffin locomotives as part of a contract for the supply of 20 units, according to the railway transport news portal Railway Supply, citing Nakolei.
The delivery process was expedited thanks to successful negotiations with the manufacturer that took place in May of this year.
Since then, and until the end of July, PKP Intercity has received 11 locomotives, two of which were delivered in recent days.
The manufacturer plans to deliver two more locomotives by the end of August.
The new locomotives will be deployed on the company’s domestic routes.
They will service the most popular destinations, including Wrocław, Poznań, Gdynia, Olsztyn, Szczecin, Kraków, Katowice, Zielona Góra, and Białystok.
Griffin locomotives are capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h, significantly higher compared to the old models being replaced, which had a maximum speed of 125 km/h.
It was previously reported that Newag committed to supplying 46 single-system Griffin locomotives for the needs of PKP Intercity.
