On July 8th in Warsaw, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a significant agreement on cooperation in security and transport, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Poland and Ukraine are enhancing cooperation in the fields of transport

This document opens new prospects for both countries in the areas of transport infrastructure and logistics.

Expansion of transport network

The main aspect of the agreement is the joint development of the transport network between the two countries.

India Accelerates Modernization of Railway Transport: Plan to Purchase 10,000 Passenger Coaches

Poland and Ukraine intend to actively expand and modernize railway, road, and air routes. Special attention will be given to improving infrastructure for transporting agricultural products and other types of freight.

New railway border crossings

In the near future, a new railway border crossing at Nizhankovychi-Malhovychi on the Ukraine-Poland border will be opened.

Poland also plans to modernize existing railway lines towards Ukraine, which will significantly increase transportation volumes. Plans include developing connections for both standard gauge (1435 mm) and broad gauge (1520 mm), as well as building and upgrading transshipment terminals along railway line 65 and in the Helm and Medyka areas, including intermodal terminals.

Energy and telecommunication infrastructure

The agreement also covers energy and telecommunication infrastructure issues.

In particular, it provides conditions for ensuring reliable power supply for transporting natural gas from Poland to Ukraine. This includes deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Polish LNG terminals, which will be a crucial step for Ukraine’s energy security.

Construction of European gauge

Another significant project is the construction of the European gauge railway in Lviv, which will begin this year.

This project aims to improve logistical connections between Ukraine and the European Union, contributing to the economic development of the region.

Poland and Ukraine: cooperation prospects

The signed agreement underscores Poland and Ukraine’s readiness to deepen cooperation in key areas.

Joint efforts in developing transport infrastructure and energy security will provide a solid foundation for further economic growth and stability in the region.

Thus, the initiative to open new transport routes and modernize existing ones will not only strengthen bilateral relations but also make a significant contribution to the development of Eastern Europe as a whole.
